The Road

I dream that suddenly everything hits me at once.  I’m in a car driving on the side of a cliff. The road is dirt. The ocean is below.

I can’t believe I am on this road again. There is no way out of the car. It’s moving. I run my fingers across the door and there is no handle to open it. I have no choice. It’s in momentum. The only way out is through.

I’m in the passenger seat. I don’t have control as we speed across the road, we reach a gap in the road and the driver speeds up. I can’t see them. All I can do is watch as we drive off the road and into the air and I can’t breathe. I don’t know if we will make it. I look at the ocean below us and a giant whale jumps out of the water. I feel overwhelmed.

What happens if we fall into the water?

It feels like we won’t make it, but we do. The car lands back on the road with a jolt that shakes us around. We continue driving. I feel scattered. I have no idea where we are going now. The road is rough. I close my eyes waiting for it to be over.

The scene changes and I am in a room in the dark. I hear something outside the door. I feel small and I am shaking. I hide under the covers and someone is there and wraps his arms around me. I feel a comfort and warmth and lay my head on his chest and relax again. That’s the only place I want to be.

I am awake.
